Chronic Absenteeism :      The State of CT defines chronic absenteeism as missing 10% of the school year, which is 18 out of 180 school days.

Things to Know:

  • Keep it in the single digits- more than 9 absences FOR THE YEAR is too many!

  • If your student leaves school before 12:00 pm, it doesn’t count as a day attended.

  • Vacations count AGAINST attendance and should be scheduled when school is NOT in session.

  • Parents/Guardians should provide a written note whenever your student is absent.

  • Provide a doctor's note when your student is sick and visits the doctor, dentist or emergency room.

  • The school will schedule a meeting with parents/ guardians when a student has an excessive number of absences to discuss strategies for improvement.

  • If attendance does not improve, the school is required to report this information to the Department of Children and Families (DCF)
